Urbanisation impacts avian biodiversity on stream ecosystems – insights from a large geographical scale
The new study carried out by our OneAquaHealth project team led by the University of Coimbra and the researcher Ana Cláudia Norte, using data collected across five European cities, revealed that the diversity of insectivorous bird species in urban streams decreases as the level of surrounding urbanization increases. Stress factors associated with soil sealing, light pollution, population density, and reduced vegetation complexity may be driving this phenomenon.
