OneAquaHealth Project Highlighted at DPH2025 for Advancing Health Through Nature-Based Urban Solutions
The OneAquaHealth project took center stage at the Digital Public Health (DPH) 2025 Conference in Funchal, Portugal, where key messages on the interconnection between environmental health and human wellbeing were brought to the international stage by project partners.
Represented by Carina Dantas, CEO of SHINE 2Europe, the project’s approach to health equity through nature-based solutions was prominently featured in the session “AMR Data Surveillance for Targeted OneHealth Action”, chaired by Lars Munter and Carina, and with Paloma Arapont and Patty Kostkova as other speakers.
OneAquaHealth explores the impact of urban aquatic ecosystems on human health, with a particular focus on biodiversity, community engagement, and environmental quality. Its holistic approach connects nature protection, citizen science, and digital innovation to support healthier urban living environments — an increasingly critical priority in European public health strategies.
At DPH2025, the project was spotlighted in the broader context of inclusive and participatory innovation, alongside other pioneering initiatives, emphasising the importance of designing public health systems that are participatory, multidisciplinary and inclusive.
“We need to better understand how the natural and digital environments we create directly shape community health,” said Carina Dantas during her intervention. “OneAquaHealth offers a unique opportunity to use science, technology, and local knowledge to design healthier cities, guided by both biodiversity and wellbeing.”
The conference, hosted by the UCL Centre for Digital Public Health in Emergencies, brought together leading experts from digital health, environmental science, social care, and policy.
