Coimbra, May 2026 – Marionet launches Up This Stream! (Por Esta Ribeira Acima), a unique Theatre and Science Workshop inviting children and young people to explore the hidden life of urban streams through creativity and research.
At Marionet’s headquarters in Coimbra, the workshop transforms participants aged 9 – 13 into observers, researchers, and creators. Guided by a scientific questionnaire developed with the MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, they will study water, vegetation, and wildlife, turning their findings into theatrical scenes and collective performances.
The initiative bridges science and imagination, culminating in a final presentation that reimagines the streams flowing through everyday urban life. It forms part of the OneAquaHealth project, which connects environmental and human health through citizen engagement and digital innovation.
Directed by Mário Montenegro and coordinated by Carolina Costa Andrade, the workshop continues Marionet’s 25‑year tradition of merging performing arts and scientific inquiry. Supported by the República Portuguesa – Cultura / Direção‑Geral das Artes, Câmara Municipal de Coimbra, and MARE, the project highlights the importance of communicating science in playful, interactive ways.
Registration is open for a limited group of 12 participants. More information can be found here: https://marioneteatro.com/en/activities/por-esta-ribeira-acima.
