The project OneAquaHealth was present in the European Commission’s high-level conference on climate change and health research

The project OneAquaHealth was represented by the coordinator Maria João Feio in the “High-level conference on climate change and health research” held in Brussels, at the European Commission, on the 19 and 20 February.

The conference was opened by the Vice-President for European Green Deal and over the two days there were several plenary and parallel sessions covering four related themes: 1- Short and long-term impacts of climate change, 2- Climate change in the context of other environmental stressors, 3- Climate change and the health sector 4 – A global research agenda on climate change and health. Particularly important for the project OneAquaHealth was the Parallel session models, tools, and technologies supporting decision-making on climate change and health, where the difficulty in using Human health data was highlighted, compared to climate and earth and satellite observations and the need to make them more accessible and comparable. Nevertheless, several studies already show the effects of climate changes in human health and wellbeing in southern countries of the North Hemisphere and in dry regions of the world, but also in the mental health of younger people.

The project OneAquaHealth, which deals with the above aspects among other, was presented in the second day with the poster “The project OneAquaHealth and the interplay between urban freshwater ecosystems, human health and climate change” by Maria João Feio & Consortium.

From the event it was clear that studying the relationship between climate change and human health and prevent the mitigation of the effect of the first in the second will be a priority in years to come, all over the world.
