Advancing environmental health through citizen science: Insights from the Matese & Climate Change event
The department of veterinary medicine and animal production of the University of Napoli Federico II (UNINA) enthusiastically sponsored and participated in the Matese & Climate Change event on 24.05.2025, organized by the Bonaventura Foundation, where science, culture, and the environment met in the newly established 25th Italian National park, Matese.
Professor Luigi Esposito and the UNINA team of Benevento Research Site presented the first results of the OneAquaHealth project, obtained thanks to the collaboration with local allies. An interesting discussion emerged with stakeholders and citizens, highlighting the importance of citizen science in identifying problems and ecosystem services related to water and urbanized aquatic environments.
Participants agreed on the necessity of personal and institutional commitment to the health of the planet and its inhabitants, as well as the relevance of the OneAquaHealth App to report positive or negative effects of aquatic ecosystems in urban environments.
